Inpaint

Inpaint, developed by Teorex, is a dedicated object-removal tool that has specialized in one job since 2007: erasing unwanted elements from photos. You simply mark the distracting element with a brush or marker — a tourist in a travel shot, a watermark, a date stamp, a power line, a scratch on an old scan, or a skin blemish — and Inpaint reconstructs the selected area from the pixels around its boundary, filling the gap so it blends with the surrounding scene. Because the workflow is mark-and-erase rather than layered editing, it requires minimal technical skill and no design background.

Inpaint is available in three forms. The browser-based online tool needs no installation: you edit in your browser, preview the result for free, and only spend a credit when you download the finished image. The Windows and Mac desktop app removes the online resolution ceiling, processes an unlimited number of images, and adds batch processing plus advanced Guide Lines and MultiView tools for harder edits where the fill needs direction. There are also iOS apps, including a newer AI-focused Inpaint that reconstructs backgrounds automatically. The online tool caps images at 4.2 megapixels and 10 MB, so large or print-resolution work is best handled in the desktop app.

Pricing is straightforward and mostly one-time rather than subscription. Online credit packs run from ten credits for $4.99 up to 1000 credits for $29.99, where one credit is spent per downloaded result and credits stay valid for a year; previewing is always free. The Windows/Mac desktop app is a $29.99 one-year license with unlimited processing and a year of updates, and it bundles with sibling tool PhotoScissors for $49.98. The iOS app offers a $2.99 monthly or $19.99 yearly subscription. Inpaint is deliberately single-purpose — it does object removal only, has no public API or third-party integrations, struggles with very complex backgrounds, and does not batch in the single-image online flow — but for clean, fast, affordable removal of unwanted objects it remains one of the most approachable tools available.
